meteorologist lisa argen. >> we are looking at lot of low clouds, mist and drizzle this morning. the sun coming up at 7:18. but we do have plenty of gray to deal with right now. the fog is going to be with us for the next several hours. by 10:00 still over the bay, it's going to take toward the early afternoon hours until we clear. once we do we will have sunny skies, but some sub born cloud along the san mateo coast. and temperatures with all the low clouds and fog, quite mild. by the afternoon getting up into the lower 80s in our inland valleys. despite the 60s at our coast, a few patches of clouds will linger there and more fog returns overnight. we are on our way to a very typical october week. i'll tell what you that means a little later. carolyn. >> lisa, you look like you are on your way to the game. the giants are just hours away from meeting the cardinals in game one of the national league championship series at&t park. fans all over the bay area are

news. >> the first pitch of the best of seven in the nlcs against the cardinals is at 5:15 p.m. at the ballpark. the joints will play two games here at home and then head to st. louis. game six and seven will be played at&t park, if necessary. the space shuttle endeavour is still making its way slowly, slowly, to its new home in los angeles at the california science center. the shuttle was supposed to arrive last night by nine. it started rolling about 1:30 this morning, and it's made another eight blocks or so. but it still has about two and a half miles to go. now, there is no single reason, they say, for the delay. it's the accumulation of many small problems along the way. in one case a tree that planners did not think would be in the way had to be cut down.

he has a cigarette in his hand. >> what you are listening to is one of the victims in a series of thefts in this neighborhood. he agreed not to use the victim's game but he agreed to walk us step by step through images about of the thief caught on his surveillance system. >> looking for witnesses, quickly grabs the mail, turns around. looks down the hill. he obviously has the mail in his possession. >> police say this suspect may be responsible for several thefts in the neighborhood. >> over the course of about the past week we've had approximately four incidents of mail theft in el~cerrito. it occurred in the area of arlington boulevard and cutting boulevard. >> this one said he made off with a cashier's check from his mailbox. another one said someone stole a package right off her front steps. this is a neighborhood neighbors tell us has been safe and they try to keep an eye on each other's property. >> we find out more about it now since we have a neighborhood watch where e-mails are

exchanged between neighbors >> one of the biggest concerns by investigators when someone rifles through someone else's mailbox is identity theft. >> there may be account information depending on bank statements. >> thanks to this surveillance video, police have excellent images of they're suspect and the vehicle he drove off in. they believe it's a silver or white cobalt. >> there's four separate cases of mail theft in this neighborhood in the last week but police say there may be other victims. they are hoping residents will monitor their accounts and if for some reason they believe they are an additional victim, they should contact police. abc7 news. in hayward a 66-year- old pedestrian has died after being struck by a motorist on jackson street last night. does it happened just before

9:00. the 26-year-old motorcyclist was also injured but his injuries are not life-threatening, both men of hayward residents. jackson street was shut down for about an hour and a half in both directions. >> a man who helped search for a missing hollister woman is now accused of killing her. david kept police in hollister at bay when they went to talk to him friday night about the missing mom. he surrendered around 3:00 yesterday morning. police found a woman's body inside his home. investigators believe it's 25-year-old heather carroll who disappeared last wednesday. police say the man told investigators the woman died after the two got into an argument. he took part in one of the many community searches for carroll. straight ahead, san francisco's bid to sway the nfl into letting the city host a super bowl in the not-too-distant future you are. also new details about friday night's boat rescue in san francisco bay. the oner of the boat tells abc7

>> we are learning more about what happened on a party boat that ran aground and began sinking friday night in san francisco bay. 22 people had to be rescued after the accident near alcatraz. abc7 news reporter nick smith caught up with the owner of the boat. >> reporter: take a look at this video just obtained by abc7 news. these hair-raising moments captured at 22 people had to be rescued from a dining boat in the san francisco bay. they were enjoying a bachelor party when their boat hit rocks near alcatraz island and immediately started taking on water and sinking. >> the gear was working great, in my opinion the crew was in tip-top shape. >> melissa and her family started the business, wine tasting on the bay, in march. >> we were ready to just go, go, go, and a fluke accident out on the bay. >> an accident that left two

large holes torn into the boat's hull, making it impossible to sail. she had bookings guaranteed through november, now everything is on hold. >> i made a lot of calls this morning and told some of my customers the disappointing news. >> i've been running the boat since 1990. >> the captain towed the body in -- the boat in for repair. he said the accident could have been avoided. >> it hit the rock. the buoy marks the rock and it was a navigational error. >> according to melissa, the neptune's captain has almost 20 years of nautical experience under his belt. she immediately recalled out drugs and alcohol. >> the crew is tested within two hours on the alcohol test and we do drug testing. >> an official investigation is underway, but boating accidents in the bay happen all the time. >> they happen to the most seasoned maritime veterans and they happen to people just going out for the day in a kayak. >> the neptune will sail again. it will take six or eight weeks to repair, making it ready for the thanksgiving holiday. abc7 news.

in a berkeley neighborhood kids dressed with swim suits but nowhere to swim are campaigning to restore their local pool. right now willard pool on telegraph avenue looks more ike a garden. it's filled with dirt instead of water. the city closed it a couple of years ago. it was closed because of cut-backs. yesterday organizers held a mock swimathon to support the measures o. and n. if passed, funding from the tax and bond measures would rebuild and reopen willard pool, among others. >> yeah, we will come swim here because the kids that come through there, they hang with their friends in the summer, and it's just sad to see that the pool is filled with dirt. >> opponents of measures o and n argue the city should not undertake any major projects until it has cash to cover all unfunded liabilities. new this morning, san francisco is making a bid to be the host city for the super

bowl. er bowl in 2016 or 2017, even though the 49ers are moving to santa clara. today san francisco chronicle reports mayor ed lee has been quietly working, even though it would be played in the south bay. the paper said san francisco would host a myriad of events leading up to thing about game. 49ers ceo confirmed friday san francisco is the team's home. he said if the niners win a super bowl, the parade would be on market street. if the parade were held today, well, there would just be a whole lot of fog. >> exactly. and we have mist out there, as well. pipers are needed and the low clouds and fog really all across the bay this morning. as a result, visibility certainly reduced out there. here's our roof camera. we will be talking about a little bit of a warmup away from the coast. in fact right now we've got

>> so lisa said the fog we are having right now it will take some time, hours, even, to lift. >> yeah, especially here in the city. but we are getting to that by mid-to late morning. by the coast it should be more stubborn but we have warmer, sunnier weather on the way for the inland east bay and for much of week ahead. here's the golden gate bridge. you see, yeah, it looks pretty foggy here. in fact, the mist and drizzle, you may need the woppers out there. 7:18 is the sunrise, setting at 6:13. 11 hours 15 minutes of daylight. we are looking at numbers around the bay. pretty mild due to all the moisture and the deck of low clouds. live doppler 7 hd. we aren't picking up any precip from any cold front but there are several fronts that will work to the north of the bay area. it will have an impact on our forecast. here's the visibility. down to a half-mile santa rosa,

novato, a mile and a half at the coast with three miles at oakland and a quarter mile out in the livermore valley. we're all experiencing cloudy skies. clear skies along the central coast. we will look for the numbers in the mid-and upper 50s this morning. once we get that fog to evaporate, the warmth will head our way first in the inland valleys. it's 52 livermore, 57 in redwood city and 59 oakland and 54 santa rosa. much warmer yesterday, anywhere from 2 to 11 degrees warmer across the bay and that's due to the deck of all the moist air with us. so this afternoon then we are calling for mostly sunny conditions. a few high clouds in the north bay, a few stubborn patches of fog along the coast. you have the drizzle right on through the 9:00 hour. then we will begin to see it lift. then by the middle of the week after we get by a few weak weather systems well to the north of the golden state, we are going to get into an offshore flow and some breezy winds, perhaps high fire danger

and low relative humidity. this morning we have high relative humidity. the first system passing to the north of us. perhaps a few high clouds. but overall we are looking at typical fall afternoon with the upper 20s in the sierra nevada. low 80s in the afternoon for sacramento. mid-60s in the northern sierra, and some of that fog staying awfully close to the coast. southern california, 89 degrees. a ridge of high pressure building into southern california, the central californian coast and that leaves us with slightly warmer temperatures today. especially east of oakland we will warm to the upper 70s. and oakland, a nice day at 73. and despite some of the stubborn fog, still a filed upper 60s for san francisco, closer to the financial district we should see about 70. mid-70s around san jose with low 80s in gilroy. there's the sunny afternoon for monterey. we are looking at a nice evening, late afternoon with temperatures in the low 60s for the cardinals and giants.

and then dropping through the 50s with that fog moving back. so it should be a nice afternoon. the look ahead, a pretty steady temperatures tomorrow. warmer tuesday. wednesday, thursday, the big game on thursday where the heat really is on with the offshore flow, that typical october dry scenario that we kind of don't like around here. then we cool off quickly on friday and saturday. >> all right. lisa, thanks. let's check in now he honor her s

californians like online voter registration, but that might not be good news for republicans. more than 400,000 californians have registered to vote online in the first three weeks since the new law went into effect and more than 70% of them are registering democrat. new this morning, cal-osha records show workers at the chevron refinery in richmond complained the company was ignoring corrosion problems after a small fire broke out last year. the san francisco chronicle reports inspectors learned about corrosion concerns from two workers after that fire, october, 2011, was quickly extinguished during a scheduled maintenance shut down. workers told inspectors corrosion was attacking the refinery, and they were concerned for the safety of fellow workers.

chevron maintains appropriate actions were taken to protect worker safety. unchecked corrosion is expected in causing the major fire in august that sent thousands of people to area hospitals. sunnyvale-based amd is cutting over 2100 jobs. advance microdevices say computers who rely on their process source around selling as much as they used to. they cut 10% of their workforce last year. this time it's expected to be 20%, mostly in engineering and sales. a california father is issuing an extreme warning to speeding drivers. philip tingley has put up this sign in front of his home in bakersfield. it reads, "warning, you hit my kid, you will be shot." he said many neighbors support the sign and he believes it's working. he said drivers are following the 25-mile-per-hour speed limit. >> i'm not here to hurt anybody. that's not my intentions. it's just everyone slow down and we are good. >> it's a little much.

a little shocking. but i understand their frustration. i mean, aside from doing that, the only alternative is possibly speed bumps, and i don't think that would be accepted very well in the neighborhood. >> police say tingley is not breaking any laws with his sign. investigators in los angeles are trying to figure out what caused a patrol car to crash. the sqaud car went airborne crashing through a fence and landing on top of another car in somebody's driveway. three officers were responding to a call friday when the accident happened. the officers were taken to the hospital, all of them expected to be okay. tv host and actor gary collins has died. the 74-year-old passed away yesterday of natural causes at a biloxi, mississippi hospital. this is video of cool expense his wife, former miss america,

mary ann mobley. during the '80s he hosted the miss america pageant and the talk so "our magazine." he also appeared in numerous movies and tv shows back in the '70s, including the love boat, fantasy island and the sixth sense. boaters on lake tahoe are patience as they may experience delays over the next six weeks while divers rid the lake of an invasive pest. they are waging a war on asian clams. the clams promote the growth of algae. that could ruin the lake's clarity. since they are not native, divers will be treating about five acres of the lake bottom starting tuesday. the clams live on a shallow gravel sandbar about 15 feet below the surface at the mouth of emerald bay. coming up, taking a bite out of bullying. the local schools that have launched a new program around lunch breaks to stop bullying. and here is a live look from

embarcadero. at 7:00 this morning, thousands of women taking part in the san francisco women's marathon will run through all this stubborn fog. they will start at union square and then run along the embarcadero in that marathon race. some schools in marin county are taking a new approach to stop bullying. four schools have kicked off the no one eats alone campaign to try to prevent social isolation at school. abc7 news education reporter lyanne melendez has the story. >> let's face it, lunchtime can be lonely for some kids. >> if i sit alone i'm going to feel all sad because -- 'cuz like i can't -- i don't have no one to sit with. >> and that feeling of not fitting in can be stressful.

>> they go with other people and i just stay in the room with my other friends and then i feel different. >> does that hurt? >> kind of. >> i feel angry at them. >> but those things don't happy -- happen anymore at davidson middle school in ran rafael. the white and orange wristband symbolizes inclusion. >> you see someone sitting alone and you go and say, hey, do you want to eat with me? >> this was started by an organization called beyond differences. her daughter had a medical condition and it affected the way her classmates treated her. i tees them and say it's like occupy middle school. go back and do the most positive thing you can think of doing, change the culture. >> the no one eats alone initiative has several trained team leaders monitoring the lunch hour. they are the ones in the back t-shirts. >> to make sure all the kids are involved and no one is eating alone or feeling socially isolated. >> excluding someone is a type of bullying, and studies have

shown this type of isolation has a significant impact on students way beyond the lunchtime. >> but when students engage with others, educators say it changes how they interact in class. >> we see a decrease in behaver problems. we see them more engaged. we see them sharing, we see their inner social skills improving. >> the goal is to have all middle and high schools in marin county on board by the end of the school year. in san rafael, lyanne melendez, abc7 news. >> parents and school kids grabbed paint brushes and pitched in yesterday in san francisco's mission district. they are working on restoring a mural that was accidentally painted over back in june at the buena vista horace mann school. they were unaware of the mural was just painted by a group of students. they say it will take a few weekends to bring the mural back

renewed interest in making salami. >> here in san francisco's mission district, cured meats are hot. making it is even hotter. >> this chef is known for his cured meats. he helped open this place earlier this year. when it opened, 20% of the meat was house made. it was quickly sold out. >> hopefully three years down the road, 50% is hours and then 100 percent. >> it's just one of many places around the bay area and country that make and selling their own artisan cured weeks. >> it's old world tradition and it was lost for a long time. >> he said it is a game of patience. it can take up to 18 months for meats to cure before they can be eaten. because they only make small batches, the end product tends to cost more than what might found at the typical grocery store.

>> from fermenting to aging to rotating, to introducing molds and being patient. >> here in napa they don't just sell the cured meats, they make them, too. >> let that go. you don't need to slide it out. and they will teach you from grinding the meat -- pouring in a little wine and peppercorn. >> to mixing it up. >> that's the salami number one. >> the fatted calf is bringing the art to the masses. >> it's basically a place where meat products are prepared and sold. that could mean anything from a few different kinds of sausage, all the way up to what we do, a bit of everything. most are made with pork fat and meat, spices and curing salts,. they are left to hang and dry.

yourself, but for more than a century there are a lot of companies of that been making it locally. lisa argen is here now talking about what's going on with our microclimates. does everyone have this fog? >> yeah, everyone but the central coast. clear from monterey and watsonville but really pea soup out there in some areas. visibility reduced underneath this blanket here. this is the view from vollmer peak. we are experiencing the low clouds, and 7:18 is the official sunrise setting at 6:33 and visibility less than a quarter mile in some spots. live doppler 7 hd and we are looking at the top of mount saint helena where several weather systems will be affecting much of the pacific northwest in the days ahead. will they make it into northern california? we will see. a mile and a half visibility half moon bay. five miles by the delta, typically a foggy ear there. you need your low beams this morning.

give yourself some extra time. we are looking at a good deal of clearing throughout the mid-to late morning hours through the east bay area and eventually over the bay. look how mild the numbers are. 59 in oakland. mid-50s with cloudy skies around san jose and 52 in livermore. with all the low clouds, that moisture out there, the numbers are milder this morning. but we are paying the price with the mist and the drizzle. 10 degrees warmer this morning in concord. this afternoon we will be mostly sunny. we will held on to some of the clouds a few patches north of sfo and a few high clouds in the north bay. otherwise a few degrees warmer and the big warmup comes in the middle of the week. so this morning we are looking at plenty of low clouds and fog and the marine layer up to about 1,000 feet. you notice some of the reds and oranges trying to get into the valley there. that's where we will see the 60s, elsewhere 70s, and even for our friends in the east bay in oakland. but the first system, a weak one to the north of us.

that allows for a few high clouds and the on shore flow throughout the day today, tomorrow. but it is going to keep the rain line to the north. then after that it looks like the conditions will really change and the wind flow allowing for the air to move from the inland valleys to the sea. that will take us much, much warmer up in our temperatures. but today still pretty mild. 67 in the city with 73 in oakland. mid-70s for san jose with a few of those 80s from antioch and concord. down by the monterey bay it's clear now and we will get into the mid-70s from santa cruz. 81 gilroy. 65 in monterey. and the accuweather seven-day forecast shows we will look at the numbers from our coast with a few patches of clouds. mid-60s there. 70s around the bay. a few degrees of warming tomorrow with some high clouds and then by tuesday we are looking at those upper 80s. and low 90s come into the picture. that's the offshore flow wednesday. by thursday talking plenty of
